District Music Competition

Vocal Music Students perform

April 23, 2008

March 18th at 7:00 a.m. majority of vocal music students loaded a bus to head to Wayne State College to perform before many different judges. The soloists, small groups and large groups showed off their talents on challenging music that they have been preparing to perform. The day went well and Mrs. Boehmer is very proud of the students on what they have accomplished this year. She has seen great progress in their technique and understanding of what it takes to accomplish a vocal sound that is mature and fun to listen to.

The vocal music department had 16 entries and saw all 16 compete on that Friday. The Freshman class for the first time, experience a competition of all types and performing before judges that are very critical and are listening and watching for certain techniques in vocal production. The Juniors and Seniors did an awesome job of encouraging everyone and are a real support system for each other.

Mrs. Boehmer would like to thank the following seniors for a great three years and we will miss your leadership and enthusiasm. They are Elise S, Ashley H. Andrea R, Jimmy B, Jackie P.

Judges at the competition have criteria that they are judging on. The rate those various criteria on a 1, 2, or 3 point table. Those ratings are added together to come to a final rating. 7 to 10 points receive a I or outstanding performance rating, 11-17 points earns a II or excellent rating, 18-24 points receive a III or good rating. Mrs. Boehmer remind the students that they are given a 5 minute chance with the judges, she is proud of their accomplishments and that 5 minute performance does not always show the judges what they are capable of, sometimes nerves get the best of the performer.

We would like to give a big thank you to all the parents and supports that attended the various performances. It was great for everyone to see friendly faces as they perform for the judges.
