The Randolph 8th grade class recently visited the WSC planetarium. As part of the trip, each student wrote a report on the visit, there were many good reports, here is one of them. For more information about what's happening in the night sky, a good site to use is linked below.
Our Trip to the Planetarium
By: Anthony Thies
On, May 6, 2008 our 8th grade class took a short trip to Wayne to go to Wayne State College’s planetarium. Professor Rump put on the show for us. First, he talked about our plans for Mars and about the previous missions to Mars. In a program called Constellation, we plan to go back to the moon in 20 years and try to get a man on Mars in 30. He also had a projection of what the night sky looks like at this time of year and 3 planets were visible they were Mars, Mercury, and Saturn. There were some constellations visible such as the Gemini, the twins, and the Big and Little Dipper. A few more were the Great Triangle and Great Square. He also said that a rover Phoenix would be landing on Mars by the ice caps to look for evidence of water on the planet, and if they do find some there might be a chance that we might go there someday. We learned a lot from this and we thanked Professor Rump for showing us this presentation and I hope someday we do get to Mars. And now I know much more about the solar system and the night sky.
