Senior "to do" list

May 15, 2008

It's your senior year.  Keep up those grades!  Be sure to take courses needed for college admittance.

The Senior "To Do" List

 Diploma

August.  Apply now to the colleges on your "choice" list.  Make sure you've included all necessary information - missing info holds up the process!  That usually means the application, an application fee, an official high school transcript, and standardized test scores (usually ACT).  Keep copies of everything you send in case something gets lost.

September.  Sign up for the October ACT test if you weren't happy with your previous score.

October.  Check out the college fairs and college visits; they're a great way to get info and ask questions.  Keep sending in those applications if you haven't finished, and start thinking about who to ask for the letters of recommendation -- you'll need to apply for scholarships.

November.  If you've been admitted to colleges, watch for housing and scholarship info.  Start thinking ahead to the financial aid process - you'll need to be admitted to a college before award packages will be sent out.  Watch for the "Financial Aid Night" held in the fall.

December.  Make sure all your admission materials are in.  Collect family tax info for the current year, which you'll need for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) beginning in January.  Be sure to complete scholarship applications by their deadlines.

January.  Complete and send in your FAFSA as soon as possible.    Priority financial aid consideration is given to families filing before March 1.

February.  Time to organize your college materials.  You'll be getting info on financial aid, scholarships, housing and more.  Be sure to keep track of deadlines on your calendar, and submit all forms ASAP!

March & April.  Decide which school you'll attend.  Notify the other schools you've applied to of your decision, in case they have a limited number of slots or limited financial aid.

May-August.  Register!   START PACKING!
