RHS Students Second at Science Contest, 16th Nationally

by Rob Engel

February 23, 2012

Eight of Randolph's junior and senior students travelled to Wayne State College on Wednesday to participate in the TEAMS contest, formerly known as JETS.  TEAMS is the name of the contest which stands for Tests in Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science.  The RHS students came away with second place at the regional contest with only Schuyler coming out ahead of them.  The result gave the RHS students the top score in the contest from their size division.  Their score placed the students 3rd overall in their division in the state ranking.  The members of this years team are:  Tony Thies, Melissa Lange, Grady Wiese, Justin Korth, Allison Backer, Jacob Svitak, Ashley Schmit, and Nathan Tunink.  The theme of this year's contest was Engineering for Better Health and included competition scenarios dealing with design of prosthetics, blood flow through the heart, and clinical drug trials.  We will post further results when the state and national rankings are available.

UPDATE:  National rankings have just become available and Randolph finished 16th out of 88 teams that had scores qualified for national competition!  Great job Randolph students!
