RHS Golfers are District Champions

Stubbs wins individual title

May 19, 2015

The Randolph Cardinals Golf team was in Ewing at Summerland Golf Course for district action on Monday.  The Cardinals were able to outlast the competition and the cold and windy conditions to bring home a district championship.  Their team score of 347 was enough to finish in front of fellow qualifiers and Lewis and Clark Conference opponents Creighton and Osmond.  This will be the first time that a full team has qualified for state golf since 2002, and continues a long string of individual qualifiers.  Despite some troubles with the second hole, sophomore Mason Stubbs fired a 78 to win the individual championship.  "Hole 2 was my nemesis. I had two double bogeys there and couldn't stay out of the trees," Stubbs said. "I putted pretty well and didn't drive it too bad. I just try to get on the green and two-putt. That's all I look for."  Andrew Schnoor also continued his great play this season with an 83 and a tie for 3rd place.  Andrew was able to recover from a tough start going 4 over through his first two holes of the day, to play the last 16 holes at only 7 over par.  Cade Linville also finished in the top 10 with an 8th place finish.  His pair of 45s on both rounds were consistent despite the windy conditions and moving to the back tees for the second round.  Logan Nordhues completed the scoring for the quartet of sophomores with a 97, and senior Katie Fye came in with a 111.  "In a team score race, every stroke counts, the last score is just as important as the first score" said Coach Engel.  The Cardinal Golfers will now head to Kearney's Meadowlark Hills for the Class D state championships where they will enter play with the top district score in the class.  Play begins Wednesday, May 27th at 9:30 and continues on Thursday the 28th.
