JV Boys on a Roll

January 20, 2016

The Randolph Junior Varsity Boys' Basketball team has won 6 straight culminating in a 1st place finish in the Plainview JV tournament.

Randolph started off the weekend with the Wausa Vikings coming to town.  The contest was a 2 quarter affair due to Wausa's lack of players.  The Cards got off to a good start and held a 12-8 advantage at the end of the 1st period.  The Vikings gave a good effort to come back but the Cardinals played just well enough to hang on for a 22-18 victory.

Jud Hixson led the scoring on the night with 8 points.  Mason Nordhues followed closely with 6. Merrix Denn had 4, and Andrew Schnoor and Avery Bermel each added 2 points to round out the scoring.

9:30 am was the starting time the next morning for weary band from Randolph.  They would face the home town Plainview Pirates in the first round of the annual Planiview JV tournament.  The Cards got off to a slow start and found themselves down by a 17-14 halftime deficit.  The Cards came out with a renewed commitment to defense, after a spirited halftime pep talk from the coaching staff.  The Cardinals outscored Plainview 11-2 in the 3rd quarter and went on to take a 34-28 victory over the host Pirates.

Merrix Denn and Andrew Schnoor both had fine opening contests.  Merrix lead all scorers with 10 points followed closely by Andrew with 9.  Mason Nordhues had 7, Judson Hixson 6, and Cade Linville had 2 points.

The first round victory sent RHS into the finals to face the Pierce Bluejays.  Andrew Schnoor and Jud Hixson combined for 10 first quarter points to get Randolph a quick 10-6 1st quarter lead.  The Bluejays outscored the Cards 10-8 in the 2nd quarter, however RHS still held a 18-16 halftime lead.  Pierce continued to put on pressure in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 24-23.  The Cardinals once again came up with a great defensive effort in the 4th quarter, holding the Pierce squad to 3 points in the 4th, to take a 35-26 tournament championship, and improve to 9-4 on the season.

Andrew Schnoor had a great game leading the way with 13 points. Jud Hixson pitched in 8. Merrix Denn had 7, Mason Nordhues 4, Cade Linville 2, and Avery Bermel rounded out the scoring with 1 point to seal the championship.

Members of the championship squad were  John Munter, Cade Linville, Axel Alvarez, Judson Hixson, Avery Bermel, Mason Nordhues, Merrix Denn, and Andrew Schnoor.
