Cardinal Golf set for Return Trip to State

Back to back District Champions

May 19, 2016

The Randolph Cardinal Golf Team will be making a second consecutive trip to the Class D state tournament next week after winning the D-3 district championship for the second straight year.  The team score of 332 was good enough to finish first with Lewis and Clark Conference rivals Creighton finishing second with 335, and Osmond third with a 351.  All three teams will represent the conference at the state meet next week at North Platte's Lake Maloney Golf Course on Tuesday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 25.  The individual results for the Cardinals included Mason Stubbs finishing T-2 with an 80 on the day, Logan Nordhues was 6th after an 82, and Andrew Schnoor 7th with an 83.  Cade Linville contributed an 87 to the team score, and Grant Brunssen recovered from a slow start to post a 108.  The team had to make up a 12 shot deficit after the front 9 holes, but came on strong on the back 9 holes to take the team championship.

To conclude the regular season, the team had their best outing of the year at the Randolph Invitational.  The team finished first with a season low 297 score to top second place Creighton by 20 strokes.  Individual performances were lead by the 1st place medalist Mason Stubbs after shooting a 6-under par 66.  Second place belonged to Andrew Schnoor after his 2-under par round of 70.  Cade Linville finished in 7th with an 80, and Logan Nordhues was 10th place medalist with an 81.  Grant Brunssen rounded out the scoring with a 92.  For the Randolph JV team competing in the meet, the leader was Judson Hixson after a 93, and close behind him was Denton Kuhl with a 94.  Christian Gall finished at 132, and John Munter at 135.

Please note the change of dates for the state meet as compared to the school calendar.  Scoring will be available live during the tournament at the NSAA website: www.nsaahome.org/boys-golf
