JV Boys Go 1-2

December 15, 2016

The Randolph JV Boys' basketball team recently went 1-2 in a three game stretch.  In the first of the three contests the Ponca Indians came to town and handed the locals a 50-33 home loss in a three quarter contest.  Randolph only had six available JV players and just didn't have enough to match the Indians.

Three players were able to get into the score book for Randolph vs Ponca.  Merrix Denn led the way with 15 points.  Carter Schnoor followed up with 11, and Keaton Backhaus rounded out the scoring with 7 points in his first action of the season due to injury.

The Cards traveled to Laurel to take on the LCC Bears in the second contest.  Randolph got off to a slow start and found themselves down 26-13  after the first of two quarters.  The second quarter saw the Cardinals come roaring back to tie the game at 36-36 and force an overtime period.  The boys fought hard but were not able to complete the comeback and fell by a 46-41 margin.

Merrix Denn continued to score well with 24 on the night.  Carter Schnoor got into double figures with 10 points.  Avery Bermel and Keaton Backhaus rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points respectively.

The final game of the three game set came in Wakefield as the Cardinals traveled to take on the Trojans.  The Cards jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, taking the contest by a 37-15 score.

Merrix Denn again led all scorers with 19 points. Cade Linville joined the JV squad to help out with low numbers and had a fine night scoring 8.  Avery Bermel pitched in with 5 points, and Keaton Backhaus and Carter Schnoor rounded out the scoring with 3 and 2 points respectively.

The Junior Cardinals are now 2-3 on the year.
