Golf Season in Full Swing!

April 19, 2017

The 2017 RHS golf season is underway and the Cardinals have been busy on the course in the opening weeks of the season.  The team began the year at the Plainview Invitational and were able to finish second as a team in a strong field at their opening meet.  Mason Stubbs led the way with a fourth place individual finish and a score of 78.  Cade Linville also placed 11th with an 83, Andrew Schnoor placed 14th with an 86, and Logan Nordhues medaled at 17th place with an 88.  Judson Hixson filled out the scoring with a 118.

The Cardinals got some home cooking in a triangular with Creighton and Laurel-Concord/Coleridge for their second event of the season.  The team posted a 151 team score with Cade and Logan leading the way with matching even par 36.  Mason added a 37, and Andrew a 42, with Judson firing a 53.  This outpaced Creighton's 167 and LCC's 175.  Also competing were JV team members Carter Schnoor with a 43, Sam Lemmons with a 55, and John Munter with a 62.

Next the team traveled to Laurel for the LCC Invitational.  The Cardinals were able to come out with a victory as a team finishing with a 326, finishing just ahead of Cedar Catholic and their 333.  Mason Stubbs was also the individual champion with a tough par on the 18th hole to shoot 75 and edge Cedar Catholic's Matthew Schafer by one stoke.  Cade Linville finished in 3rd place after an 80, Andrew Schnoor was 7th, Logan Nordhues placed 12th with an 87, and Carter Schnoor rounded out the day with a 90 in his first varsity event.

Finally the Cardinal golfers made the trip to Ponca for the Ponca Invitational to continue their busy schedule.  The team posted a season-best 314 on their way to first place with Ponca coming in second at 353.  The team nearly swept the medals at the top with Andrew winning a playoff hole against teammate Mason for first place on the day after both fired matching 75s.  Cade finished third with an 80, and Logan used a strong last five holes to come in 5th with an 84.  Judson Hixson also posted a 100 on the day.  The Cards will be back in action on Saturday at the Osmond Invite.
