JV Boys Get First Win

December 19, 2017

The Randolph JV Boys’ Basketball team has been very busy approaching the Christmas break.  Bloomfield came to town, and later in the week, the Cardinals competed in the annual R-Club tournament in Randolph.

The Bloomfield Bees came to town and swarmed the locals in the first quarter.  The Bees jumped out to a 12-3 first quarter lead and cruised to a 30-9 victory.  Avery Bermel led all Cardinal scorers with 5 points.  Tyson Junck scored 3 points, and Justin Haselhorst add 1 to round out the scoring.

In the opening round of the annual R-Club tournament, Randolph was overwelmed by a Hartington team that featured several varsity starters, due to the Wildcats low numbers.  The Cards were tough early, being tied at 3 at the end of the first quarter.  The halftime score still remained close with the Wildcats holding a 9-6 halftime advantage.  Hartington exploded in the second half, outscoring the locals 28-3 to take a 37-9 victory and advance to the tournament championship. Avery Bermel had a total of 6 points and Justin Haselhorst had 3 for Randolph in the open round contest.

Randolph faced the Creighton Bulldogs in the the conciliation-finals.  Randolph and Creighton were deadlocked after the first quarter at 8 apiece.  The Cards were able to hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter to take a 5 point halftime lead. They played good defense down the stretch, holding Creighton to just 2 fourth quarter points, to take the 24-17 victory, and a 3rd place finish in the tournament.  Justin Haselhorst had a season high 13 points to lead the Cardinals.  Avery Bermel chipped in 6, Tristen Mosel had 3, and Christian Goestch rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
